“New Abwehr” remains a Hypothesis. It was formulated on the basis of the Hapsburg Group report in Mueller Investigation, which provided the third (and defining, “pathognomonic”) criterion (third logical “leg” to stand on): the historical German

AUSTRIA-PHOBIA which in combination with the other two may be “DIAGNOSTIC”. The other two criteria are:

ANTISEMITISM – JUDEOPHOBIA and

HOMOPHOBIA WITH LATENT HOMOSEXUALITY.

Psychodynamically, these are the Reaction Formations: most of the high Abwehr officers, including Canaris, were Jews or part Jews and Gay, and they tended to blame Austria and all things Austrian after the WW2, including Hitler.

The formulation above appears to be a new, novel, “medical” approach in the attempts to recognize, to diagnose the Intelligence Operations and their ultimate Authors, for whom this activity is a High Art, intensely emotionally charged. Ultimately, such attempts at recognitions, identifications and authentications are the “smell test”.

The emotions of Masters – Authors are coded in their Intelligence Operations, their work, activities and views. They provide the clues, tips, and leads for the in-depth, historical Intelligence and the Counterintelligence Investigations.

With the organizations such as Abwehr and the New Abwehr, with their historicism, unique competence and skills, the described above approach may be one of the most productive in the attempts at understanding them and the todays’ security and the political climates.

Generally speaking, I think that this new emerging field of the

Open Source Strategic Intelligence and Counterintelligence Analysis,

should be actively developed, and the publications and the “scientific competition within it should be actively promoted.

It looks like we could get good value for a dollar here, if it is managed well.

Counterintelligence Elections 2016 FBI Corruption FBI News Review FBI Reform History

12.5.18 – M.N.: Investigate the entire upper echelon of the Obama's FBI, and consider bringing the criminal charges against all the former and current FBI officials! | Bill Priestap, a 20-year veteran of the FBI, will exit the agency at the end of the year, according to a new report. – WSJ

Investigate the investigators! Save America! Reform the FBI now!

M.N.: Investigate the entire upper echelon of the Obama’s FBI, and consider bringing the criminal charges against all the former and current FBI officials who were involved in “Clinton emails investigation” (which was designed by the adversaries, and was used to divert the resources), and “Trump – Russia NON-INVESTIGATION” for this fundamental, historical, unprecedented failure of the American Counterintelligence which is primarily the responsibility of the FBI.
The least that they can be accused of is the manifest and obvious, utter professional incompetence. The worst, no one wants to think and to talk about. They made the FBI and the American political system the laughing stock of the world. They undermined the American and the Global Security.
Investigate all of them in fullest and in-depth!

FBI veteran who worked on Clinton, Russia probes retiring

Bill Priestap, a 20-year veteran of the FBI, will exit the agency at the end of the year, according to a new report.
Priestap, the assistant director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s counterintelligence division, has decided to retire from the bureau, the Wall Street Journal reported.
He was involved with the investigation regarding the unauthorized email server of 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton that she used while she was secretary of state and the investigation examining Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin.
With officials like former FBI Director James Comey and Deputy Director Andrew McCabe no longer at the FBI, Priestap is currently the last high-ranking official at the FBI who originally worked on both investigations.
The investigations have come under fire from both Republicans and Democrats, who have cited mismanagement issues in both. For example, Democrats have expressed frustration that the FBI shared they were conducting an investigation into Clinton prior to the election but waited until after the election to disclose they were also investigation Russian interference.
Meanwhile, Republicans fault the FBI for going easy on Clinton and not charging her with any wrongdoing and have claimed that the FBI inappropriately obtained a surveillance warrant to monitor a Trump campaign aide.
The FBI told the Journal that Priestap’s retirement was unrelated to the 2016 investigations and said he “became eligible to retire and has chosen to do so after 20 years of service.” It’s uncertain what Preistap plans to do following his retirement.

The Showboats

7.12.17 – All of the FBI is just one huge “showboat”in Trump’s words.

Their first and foremost concern is to manage their own publicity and to present themselves as the “heroes” to the American public, while, in fact, they are at the roots of the problem. And they are just as slow, flashy, exhibitionistic, inefficient, outdated, and ridiculous. The FBI’s incompetent, red neck, dim-wit nincompoops are not able to protect the country. Some people call them the ‘caps”, others the “feds” or the “g-men”. They should be called The Showboats, to use a surprisingly astute term and definition by Mr. Trump, although without necessarily agreeing with him on Mr. Comey and his firing. Comey, in my humble, outsider’s opinion, and on the basis of the press reports, is a very good and moral man. In retrospect, and in the view of what has transpired, (and we still know quite a little of it yet), the issue of his efficiency as the FBI Director might be posed, and this feature of his performance might be questioned. However, to be fair, the efficiency of the organization is not the direct translation of the qualities of its Director, it is much more complex and more “multifactorial”, it depends on many, and often times, conflicting factors.
Introduce the legislation forbidding the FBI to manage their own publicity and to engage in self-promotion, self-advertising, and self-entertainment. They just have to do their job and to do it well and properly. We do not need “heroes” for this, or more correctly, the psychopaths in heroes’ clothes, of whom there are plenty, among both the agents and their “darling” informants, who manipulate the Bureau any which way they wish. This is “a first step if the FBI is to be transformed into the first-rate crime fighting organization it professes to be rather the

They did also become a “state within the state”, an organization built on the mafia “family and brotherhood” principles and structure, and the “American KGB”, with the main difference of lacking their adversaries’ and infiltrators’ efficiency, while sharing the same skills and the same tools of the trade, like the infamous “COINTELPRO“, for example. It is hard to know who of them excelled whom in these self-serving games of the village idiots, in these deliberate games and roles of the half-demented “local yokels”. And it is also hard to know, who was the real author of this approach: one of the Soviet sadistic Berias or J. Edgar Hoover himself, who was so eager to learn from his Soviet counterparts. Stalinism is both pervasive and perverse. Hoover bragged that he “sponsored the Communist Party USA” (did he mean allowing the money transfers from the USSR?) because he “wanted to see what they will do”. And also, apparently, to use this information at the convenient moments for self-and-Bureau promotion and self-advertising, which apparently, were for him the thing inseparable: him and the Bureau. They were married to the grave in this perverse, homophobic, latently homosexual union.
FBI have the rich and very questionable history and origins, and it shows. The issues of the long-standing hostile efforts at infiltration and penetration are the part, and the very important one, of the FBI’s problems
Investigate the investigators! Save America! Reform the FBI now!

After using computers at the FBI to download naked photos of women and talking for months with a foreign national, an FBI agent stayed employed for years—and wasn’t even disciplined.
The case is one in an ongoing probe by Department of Justice that found “systemic” misconduct problems at the FBI where the bureau was not reporting “high-risk security concerns” made against agents, according to a memo released Tuesday

This is the big, absolutely unexplored and unaddressed, and quite painful subject. It must be investigated, in all the possible respects and implications also, and this phenomenon (non-doubtful?) has to be studied.
There is no need for the “Obama’s FBI” or “Trump’s FBI”. There is a tremendous need for the US Domestic Intelligence Service, be it the FBI or any other (competition is the engine of perfection), which is healthy and well functioning. It does not appear that presently the current FBI fits these criteria.

M.N.: Investigate FBI for being “Obamized” by Obama, in all respects. – 7:29 AM 11/1/2018 – The News and Times

7:08 AM 11/1/2018 – Long Post: “Meadows: Investigate FBI for being ‘weaponized’ by Obama”. | M.N.: Investigate FBI for being “Obamized” by Obama, in all respects.

So give your new “carpetas” the correct tags and labels, dance ethically and esthetically, keep your guns securely holstered, and do not drink too much. Are they able or willing to understand the difference? Hopefully, they kapish. They are not that dumb. Hopefully. Most importantly, address the issues.

All of Amazon’s U.S. and U.K. hourly operations and customer service employees will see an increase, including those whose base wage is already at the higher minimum wage.
  • Amazon announced a $10 million investment in Closed Loop Fund to support recycling infrastructure in the U.S. This investment will improve recycling for three million homes in communities across the country, diverting one million tons of recyclable material from landfill into the recycling stream and eliminating the equivalent of two million metric tons of CO2 by 2028.
  • In response to Hurricanes Florence and Michael in the U.S., the Disaster Relief by Amazon team deployed more than 30 trucks with more than 600,000 Amazon-donated disaster relief items, including: bottles of water, food, supplies for children, and other essentials. In addition, thousands of Amazon customers donated items and money to the American Red Cross, Feeding America, and Save the Children through their Wish Lists, Amazon Pay, and for the first time, via Alexa.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced several new customer commitments and major migrations during the quarter: DoorDash is all-in on AWS; Hubspot and Samsung Heavy Industries selected AWS as their Preferred Public Cloud Provider; and Yelp moved its master database from its own data center to AWS, completing its migration to the AWS cloud.
  • Together with DXC, AWS announced a multi-year, global agreement to build a new multi-billion dollar DXC – AWS Integrated Practice that will deliver IT migration, application transformation, and business innovation to global Fortune 1000 clients. The DXC – AWS Integrated Practice will offer clients secure, cloud-first solutions that combine the breadth and depth of cloud services offered through AWS with DXC enterprise services to enable them to innovate in their industries, be more agile, and better adapt to dynamic market conditions with speed and at scale while also modernizing their operations for a digital era.
  • AWS announced the general availability of new High Memory instances for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). Built to run large in-memory databases, including production deployments of SAP HANA, Amazon EC2 High Memory instances deliver 6 TB, 9 TB, and 12 TB of memory today, with 18 TB and 24 TB instances coming in 2019.
  • AWS announced the general availability of T3 instances, the next generation of burstable general-purpose instances for Amazon EC2, providing up to 30 percent improved price performance than previous generation T2 instances. Designed for applications with variable CPU usage that experience occasional spikes in demand, T3 instances enable customers’ applications to burst seamlessly to meet temporary traffic peaks and then scale back down to operate at typical traffic levels. T3 instances feature Intel Xeon Scalable processors and support up to 5 Gbps in peak network bandwidth.
  • AWS announced general availability of a high frequency instance (z1d) for Amazon EC2, as well as the next generation of memory optimized instances (R5), and memory optimized instances with local storage (R5d). z1d instances are designed for workloads requiring the highest single-thread performance along with a large amount of memory; these are workloads such as electronic design automation, relational databases, and financial simulations. R5 and R5d instances deliver improved price-per-gigabyte for memory intensive applications, such as high performance databases, in-memory caches and databases, and big data analytics.
  • AWS announced the general availability of Amazon Aurora Serverless, a new deployment option for Amazon Aurora that automatically starts, scales, and shuts down database capacity with per-second billing for applications with less predictable usage patterns. Amazon Aurora Serverless offers database capacity without the need to provision, scale, and manage any servers, and brings the power of the MySQL-compatible database built for the cloud to applications with intermittent or cyclical usage patterns.
  • At VMworld 2018, AWS announced Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) on VMware. Amazon RDS on VMware is a service that will make it easy for customers to set up, operate, and scale databases in VMware-based software-defined data centers and hybrid environments and to migrate them to AWS or VMware Cloud on AWS. Available in the coming months, Amazon RDS on VMware will support Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDB databases.
  • Together with VMware, AWS announced the expansion of VMware Cloud on AWS into the AWS Asia Pacific (Sydney) Region, with additional regions expected to go live in Q4 including Asia Pacific (Tokyo), EU (Ireland), U.S. West (N. California), U.S. East (Ohio), and AWS GovCloud (U.S.). VMware Cloud on AWS offers customers an operationally consistent and familiar way to run, manage, and secure applications in a hybrid cloud, with access to a broad range of innovative and comprehensive AWS services and robust disaster protection. New customers include Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Playtika, and Stagecoach.
  • AWS announced two more Amazon Lightsail instance sizes at the top end of the range, 16 GB and 32 GB, and reduced pricing by up to 50 percent for existing instances. Amazon Lightsail gives customers access to the power of AWS with the simplicity of a virtual private server. This marks the fourth time AWS has reduced prices thus far in 2018, and the 67th time since its inception.
  • AWS announced the general availability of IoT Device Defender, a fully-managed service that helps customers keep their connected devices safe by auditing device fleets, detecting anomalous behavior, and recommending mitigations for any issues found. AWS IoT Device Defender makes it easy to maintain and enforce IoT configurations – such as ensuring device identity, authenticating and authorizing devices, and encrypting device data – while allowing customers to work at scale and in an environment that contains multiple types of devices.

Financial Guidance
The following forward-looking statements reflect Amazon.com’s expectations as of October 25, 2018, and are subject to substantial uncertainty. Our results are inherently unpredictable and may be materially affected by many factors, such as fluctuations in foreign exchange rates, changes in global economic conditions and customer spending, world events, the rate of growth of the Internet, online commerce, and cloud services, and the various factors detailed below.
Fourth Quarter 2018 Guidance

  • Net sales are expected to be between $66.5 billion and $72.5 billion, or to grow between 10% and 20% compared with fourth quarter 2017. This guidance anticipates an unfavorable impact of approximately 80 basis points from foreign exchange rates.
  • Operating income is expected to be between $2.1 billion and $3.6 billion, compared with $2.1 billion in fourth quarter 2017.
  • This guidance assumes, among other things, that no additional business acquisitions, investments, restructurings, or legal settlements are concluded.

A conference call will be webcast live today at 2:30 p.m. PT/5:30 p.m. ET, and will be available for at least three months at amazon.com/ir. This call will contain forward-looking statements and other material information regarding the Company’s financial and operating results.
These forward-looking statements are inherently difficult to predict. Actual results could differ materially for a variety of reasons, including, in addition to the factors discussed above, the amount that <a href=”http://Amazon.com” rel=”nofollow”>Amazon.com</a> invests in new business opportunities and the timing of those investments, the mix of products and services sold to customers, the mix of net sales derived from products as compared with services, the extent to which we owe income or other taxes, competition, management of growth, potential fluctuations in operating results, international growth and expansion, the outcomes of legal proceedings and claims, fulfillment, sortation, delivery, and data center optimization, risks of inventory management, seasonality, the degree to which the Company enters into, maintains, and develops commercial agreements, proposed and completed acquisitions and strategic transactions, payments risks, and risks of fulfillment throughput and productivity. Other risks and uncertainties include, among others, risks related to new products, services, and technologies, system interruptions, government regulation and taxation, and fraud. In addition, the current global economic climate amplifies many of these risks. More information about factors that potentially could affect Amazon.com’s financial results is included in Amazon.com’s filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), including its most recent Annual Report on Form 10-K and subsequent filings.
Our investor relations website is amazon.com/ir and we encourage investors to use it as a way of easily finding information about us. We promptly make available on this website, free of charge, the reports that we file or furnish with the SEC, corporate governance information (including our Code of Business Conduct and Ethics), and select press releases, which may contain material information about us, and you may subscribe to be notified of new information posted to this site.

7:08 AM 11/1/2018 – Long Post: “Meadows: Investigate FBI for being ‘weaponized’ by Obama”. | M.N.: Investigate FBI for being “Obamized” by Obama, in all respects.

The Demiurge is the owner of the Black Cat  Cabaret (Rodolphe Salis), and they have a lot of black cats in the store, to run to the left, right, and all the other possible directions and to to threaten and to cause all sorts of “bad luck” and other calamities. Here they run the Salis’ black cat between Great Britain and Russia.
This reality show is performed in the genre of cabaret, with The Demiurge playing the role of the invisible, omnipotent, omniscient, obsessive-compulsive, meticulous, artistic but talantless, pedantic Master of Ceremonies.

Superstition, prejudice, bringer of good or bad luck[edit]

The folklore surrounding black cats varies from culture to culture. The Scots believe that a strange black cat’s arrival to the home signifies prosperity. In Celtic mythology, a fairy known as the Cat Sìth takes the form of a black cat. Black cats are also considered good luck in the rest of Britain and Japan.[5]Furthermore, it is believed that a lady who owns a black cat will have many suitors.[6] In Western history, black cats have typically been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches, or actually shape-shifting witches themselves. Most of Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, particularly if one walks across the path in front of a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death. In Germany, some believe that black cats crossing a person’s path from right to left, is a bad omen. But from left to right, the cat is granting favorable times.[7] In the United Kingdom it is commonly considered that a black cat crossing a person’s path is a good omen.[8]

NATO confirms Volga-Dnepr notice to quit SALIS ǀ Air Cargo News

mikenova shared this story from aircargonews.net.

NATO has confirmed the withdrawal of a Volga-Dnepr subsidiary from its contract for Strategic Air Lift International Solution (SALIS), which provides An-124 freighter uplift for the western military alliance.
A spokesperson for the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) told Air Cargo News: “Since 2006 the NSPA has contracted for airlift to assist an international consortium of nations in meeting their requirements for outsize cargo airlift.
“These services have been operating for more than a decade and currently two separate contracts are in force to support the Support Partnership nations under what is known as the Strategic Air Lift International Solution or SALIS.
“The SALIS is an international consortium which includes 10 nations: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia.”
The NSPA spokesperson continued: “The current contracts were signed on 1 January 2017 – one with Antonov SALIS GmbH and a second one with Ruslan SALIS GmbH. These contracts are in force until the end of 2018.
“NSPA has been informed by Ruslan SALIS that they will not continue their service beyond the terms of their current contract which will remain in force until the end of 2018.”
“NSPA is currently working with the SALIS nations to explore options to meet their future airlift requirement from January 2019 onward.”
NSPA is unable to provide additional information at this time.
Two An124-100 aircraft, one each from the two freighter airlines, have been stationed permanently at Germany’s Leipzig/Halle airport since March 2006 as part of the SALIS Project.
More aircraft are also made available at short notice, when required, to provide airlift for EU and NATO countries.
Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Group said in a statement: “In line with our corporate strategy, Volga-Dnepr Group is focused on the growth of its business in the civil commercial sector and continuing to extend the scope of its niche products.
“We have been gradually withdrawing from the military logistics transportation market in due compliance with our previous commitments.
“The Group will not participate in the tender process initiated by NATO in its existing configuration, but we are open to continued cooperation with all organizations engaged in the transportation of humanitarian cargoes, and for future participation in disaster and emergency recovery programs.”

During their annual spring meeting in Brussels in June 2003, NATO Ministers of Defence signed letters of intent on strategic air- and sealift. Eleven nations signed the letter of intent on airlift: Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal and Turkey. At the June 2004 Istanbul Summit, Defence Ministers of 15 countries signed a memorandum of understanding to achieve an operational airlift capacity for outsize cargo by 2005, using up to six Antonov An-124-100 transport aircraft. In addition, the Defence Ministers of Bulgaria and Romania signed a letter of intent to join the consortium.
In January 2006, the 15 countries signed a contract with Ruslan SALIS GmbH, a subsidiary of the Russian company Volga Dnepr, based in Leipzig.
In March 2006, the 15 original signatories were joined by Sweden at a special ceremony in Leipzig to mark the entry into force of the multinational contract. The contract’s initial duration was for three years but this has now been extended until the end of 2014. Finland and Poland have also now joined the SALIS programme. The SALIS contract was re-competed in 2012 and Ruslan SALIS GmbH was rewarded a new two-year contract (2013/2014) with options to extend until December 2017.
Volga-Dnepr and Ukraine’s ADB provide the SALIS aircraft and also provide AN-124-100 aircraft to support the Afghanistan mission, with weekly sorties from Europe to Afghanistan and back, under contractual arrangements with NATO Support Agency (NSPA).
The capabilities of SALIS will play a big role in on-going Afghanistan re-deployment.

Third Russian Possibly Involved in Salisbury Poisoning

mikenova shared this story from Voice of America.

British investigators now say a third Russian military intelligence officer was involved in the poisoning in March this year of former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the southern English cathedral town of Salisbury.
Officials say the officer, who they suspect of carrying out reconnaissance for the nerve agent attack, has been identified by the British security services. At this stage, they say, they are not releasing his name – neither the alias he might have used nor his real identity.
The disclosure comes as Kremlin officials downplayed the unmasking earlier this week of one of the suspects in the attack as a decorated colonel in the GRU, the Russian military intelligence service.
Col. Anatoliy Chepiga, a GRU veteran who is believed to have served in an elite special forces unit in Afghanistan as well as in Chechnya and Ukraine, received Russia’s top military honor, Hero of the Russian Federation, in 2014. It may have been bestowed on him personally by Russian President Vladimir Putin, say security analysts.
Chepiga was seen laughing on CCTV footage released earlier this year by the British authorities as he and a colleague, who used the alias Alexander Petrov, sauntered along a Salisbury street March 4 soon after the poisoning of Skripal, a former Russian agent who defected to Britain.

The two men have claimed they are sport nutritionists and in an interview, ridiculed by the British media and government, with the Kremlin-directed RT network, insisted they had gone to Salisbury, twice, to see the cathedral’s spire and ancient clock. Their first day trip was a failure because of slush and snow, they said, although according to weather data there was no snow in the cathedral town on March 3.
The investigative journalism consortium Bellingcat, along with the news-site The Insider, say they have identified the decorated veteran, who used the alias Ruslan Boshirov, by trawling through open-source records of the graduates of Russian military academies and then matching his photograph. Leaked data of Chepiga’s real passport provided final proof.
‘Fake news’
The Russian Foreign Ministry says the Bellingcat identification is “fake news.”
And Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Thursday: “Like you, we are just learning of this investigation in the media released that talks about certain people resembling certain other people.” Other Kremlin officials say many people resemble each other.
Chepiga’s apparent identification as one of the likely culprits of the assassination attempt using the rare toxin Novichok leaves in tatters the Kremlin claim that it had no involvement in the attack, say British officials. His seniority in the GRU, they argue, suggests the attack was sanctioned from the top of the Kremlin.
Bellingcat says aside from its own open-source probe, “multiple sources familiar with the person and/or the investigation have confirmed the suspect’s identity.” British officials say they have no dispute with the identification. But they are not officially confirming it and have not said in detail why, arguing they are unable to for security reasons.

Locals in Chepiga’s home village, Berezovka, 640 kilometers east of Moscow in the Amur region, interviewed by the Russian newspaper Kommersant, confirm the identification and say they knew it was him even before the Bellingcat investigation. They say they recognized him from the CCTV footage British authorities released. Kommersant says the locals spoke on the condition of anonymity, fearing retribution.
“Yeah, that’s Tolya,” one woman told the newspaper, using Chepiga’s nickname. She says he was a disciplined youth. “He didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, and never got involved with any bad crowd,” she said.
Security analysts say it is possible that Chepiga and Skripal, a former GRU officer, knew each other. If so, it would add a personal element to the nerve agent attack. Skripal also served in Afghanistan, although not in a special forces unit but with Soviet Airborne Troops and many years earlier.
Skripal and his daughter survived the March nerve-agent attack, but a local woman not connected to the original attack died in July after being exposed to the same toxin, which was contained in a discarded perfume bottle dumped in a trash bin.
Skripal was a double agent for British intelligence in the 1990s. In December 2004, he was arrested by Russian authorities, tried, convicted of high treason and sentenced to 13 years in prison. He was included in a 2010 spy swap and settled in Salisbury.
Britain, the United States and most European Union countries responded to the Salisbury attack with expulsions of Russian diplomats and financial sanctions on Russia. The Kremlin denies any involvement in the attack and has maintained variously that the poisoning never happened, that it was carried out by Britain in order to blame Russia or that unknown third parties were responsible.

Third Salisbury attack suspect believed to have been identified by police

mikenova shared this story .

A third Russian accomplice alleged to have helped plan the Salisbury nerve agent attack is believed to have been identified by police.
The man, from Russia’s military intelligence service the GRU, is reported to have visited Salisbury ahead of the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The paper said the suspect was likely to have fed back details including the layout of the cul-de-sac where Mr Skripal lived and which door he used to enter and leave.
The Press Association has confirmed that the investigation is looking at several suspects, with a senior Government source stating that there are “at least two”. An exact number has not been confirmed but the source said there were “multiple suspects” being investigated.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “We will not be discussing any further details in what remains a live investigation.”
UK authorities believe two Russians, using the aliases Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, smeared the highly toxic Novichok chemical on a door handle at the Wiltshire home of former GRU officer Mr Skripal on March 4.
The attack left Mr Skripal and his daughter critically ill, and Dawn Sturgess, 44, who was later exposed to the same nerve agent, died in July.
On Wednesday, the investigative group Bellingcat identified one of the suspects as Colonel Anatoliy Chepiga – a highly decorated GRU officer.
Bellingcat said it had identified Chepiga, who travelled to the UK with a passport issued in the assumed name of Ruslan Boshirov, by trawling through online records from Russian military academies.
Chepiga’s former commanding officer Alexander Borzhko confirmed that Chepiga fought in Chechnya and received the Hero of Russia medal.
But President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he could find no information about such a person receiving the award.
The Government has declined to comment officially on the report, although it has previously said the two suspects wanted for the attack on the Skripals were GRU officers.
Bellingcat is reportedly close to identifying the second suspect.
The Kremlin says it expects Britain to say what it knows about the identity of the two suspects so that Russian officials can launch an investigation.
Mr Peskov said that the allegations made by the British-based investigative group cannot serve as a basis for such an inquiry.
“We can’t have media as our vis-a-vis in such a sensitive case,” he said.
“Such materials should only come from competent sources. From the very start, Russia has offered to conduct a joint investigation, but faced British refusals.”
Meanwhile, the Government dismissed allegations that Russian security services infiltrated the British Embassy in Moscow to obtain visas for the suspected poisoners.
A Home Office spokeswoman said: “We reject these claims entirely.
“Applications of this type would be decided by a visa officer in the UK and not in the British Embassy in Moscow.”

Poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal – Wikipedia

On 4 March 2018, Sergei Skripal, a former Russian military officer and double agent for the UK’s intelligence services, and his daughter Yulia Skripal were poisoned in Salisbury, England, with a Novichok nerve agent, according to official UK sources[3][4] and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).[5] After three weeks in a critical condition, Yulia regained consciousness and was able to speak. She was discharged on 9 April 2018.[6][7] Sergei was also in a critical condition until he regained consciousness one month after the attack. He was discharged from hospital on 18 May 2018.[8][9]

Third suspect in Salisbury Novichok attack ‘identified by security services’

mikenova shared this story .

A third suspect has been identified in the Novichok poisonings of former double agent Sergei Skripal and his daughter in Salisbury, according to reports.
Investigators believe another Russian military intelligence officer visited the city on a reconnaissance mission prior to the attack in March, the Telegraph reported.

The spotter would have travelled alone to assess the location before Ruslan Boshirov and Alexander Petrov brought toxic nerve agent Novichok into the UK in a perfume bottle.
They are suspected of poisoning Russian defector Skripal and his daughter Yulia by smearing Novichok on his front door before heading back to Moscow.

The Skripals both survived, but local woman Dawn Sturgess died after her partner Charlie Rowley found the perfume bottle used to dispense the poison.
It is believed that security chiefs have identified the new suspect who came to Salisbury to scope out the intended target.
Skripal suspect ‘true identity’ revealed as decorated Russian colonel
Philip Ingram, a former intelligence and security officer, told The Telegraph: “There was almost certainly intelligence on the ground before the attack was carried out, it is what is called a pattern of life study.
“They wouldn’t have turned up at the house and put it on the door handle on a whim.”
It follows reports that security services are investigating four other suspects believed to be linked to the attack – and analysis from a former Russian spy who said kill teams would tend to operate in teams of six.

Ex-spy Boris Karpichkov, 59, told the Mirror that eavesdroppers from Russian spy agency the FSB would have monitored Yulia Skripal’s mobile, email, internet and Skype before she travelled to the UK to meet her father.
The team would have formed a  “Special Operations Group”, or SOG, and cloned the passports of prisoners in other EU states to travel without visas – and some members may still be laying low following the attack.
Suspect Ruslan Boshirov has recently been identified by the investigative journalism bureau Bellingcat as a decorated GRU Colonel, Anatoliy Chepiga – despite repeated claims from Kremlin that his picture “means nothing to us”.

Chepiga, 39, served in wars in Chechnya and Ukraine. He was made a Hero of the Russian Federation by decree of President Vladimir Putin in 2014.
Prime Minister Theresa May damned Russia for the attack at an address to the UN Security Council on Tuesday.
She said: “We have taken appropriate action, with our allies, and we will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure our collective security.

“Russia has only sought to obfuscate through desperate fabrication.”
Moscow continues to deny claims of involvement, as officials called out Mrs May for refusing to present her evidence to them.
The country’s Ambassador to London, Alexander Yakovenko, tweeted yesterday, quoting Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov: “London arrogantly demands that we take responsibility for the crime just because they have some “evidence” no one has ever seen and they would not present it to the public. Frankly speaking, this is just childish.
“London violates at least three or four treaties and refuses to answer any questions. As for me, it is a clear sign of guilty conscience.”

The Russian embassy said in a statement: “The UK is refusing to provide the Russian investigation with any information or evidence gathered by British Police when working on the Salisbury incident.
“British authorities (earlier) announced that they did not intend to pursue extradition of the “suspects” and made it clear that they were not interested in submitting their own requests for legal assistance, which could be provided by means of interrogation of certain persons, provision of access to documents, etc.”
A Home Office spokeswoman said: “We set out our position clearly this month. The Police and CPS have identified two men as the prime suspects in the attack in Salisbury. We have repeatedly asked Russia to account for what happened in Salisbury in March, and they have replied with obfuscation and lies.
“We want these men to face justice in the UK and have taken steps to ensure that if they ever leave Russia in the future they can be arrested, detained and brought to the UK.”

Mike Nova’s Shared NewsLinks: “Germany: the devil came out of his box”

mikenova shared this story from Fdesouche.

While she had been counting on the German political scene since the fall of Hitler , the far right had repointed the nose with Pegida. But this Sunday, it is something else: the extremist ideas are now embodied by a political party, the AfD – Alternative for Germany – which reaches, in three regional polls, stratospheric scores for a party that did not exist three years ago! Clearly, the refugee crisis and the rejection of Angela Merkel’s policies in this regard fueled this rise.
“We are not racist and will not become racist,” proclaimed yesterday his vice president. Nonsense! The Alternative for Germany is recognized by the experts of the genus as a brother of the National Front, at its head, a young woman with a very effective charisma. Against the migrants, against the policy of Merkel, but also against Islam, Europe, the press, the “system”, the new president who claims above all the “non-politically correct”, has an extreme vision of the concept She did not it was also good for women and children.
For Germany and Angela Merkel, the danger is urgent: in 2017, it is in the Federal Parliament, that the AfD could make its entry. This would be the first time that the Bundestag since the Nazis . This is to say if this is not a good time to be in the back to a Europe where only Germany and Belgium were still an exception.

[…]
However, they have no substantive solution, nothing credible in the long term, to propose. On the contrary, they give rise to confrontations, aggression, and row fights – see the effect of the outrages of a Trump. We will break the Muslim, the Mexican, the Black? Are we going to rape refugees who do not get up fast enough to return to Turkey? That’s the other branch of the alternative?
It is a dark race against time that is engaged between democratic solutions difficult to develop (Europe has a crucial meeting this week) and hatreds unleashed by populist or extremist leaders who are in the verbal bidding and warm crowds, legitimately worried but should be reassured.
Keep calm, push for democratic solutions: these two “duties”, adds a third now – the fight against the return of the old European demons . It is urgent again to remember: “never again”.

Jack-in-the-box

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to navigation Jump to search

A generic jack-in-the-box
Two boys playing with a jack-in-the-box in an 1863 illustration

Jack-in-the-box after Paul Gavarni.

jack-in-the-box is a children‘s toy that outwardly consists of a box with a crank.[1] When the crank is turned, a music box mechanism in the toy plays a melody. After the crank has been turned a sufficient amount of times (such as at the end of the melody), there is a “surprise“:[2] the lid pops open and a figure, usually a clown or jester, pops out of the box. Some jack-in-the-boxes open at random times when cranked, making the startle even more effective. Many of those that use “Pop Goes the Weasel” open at the point in the melody when the word “pop” would be sung.

Origin[edit]

A theory as to the origin of the jack-in-the-box is that it comes from the 14th-century English prelateSir John Schorne,[3] who is often pictured holding a boot with a devil in it. According to folklore, he once cast the devil into a boot to protect the village of North Marston in Buckinghamshire. In French, a jack-in-the-box is called a “diable en boîte” (literally “devil in a box”).

Counterintelligence History WW1 and Canaris roots

2:25 PM 9/14/2018 – Canaris made the United States one of Abwehr's primary targets even before America's entry into the conflict. By 1942, German agents were operating from within all of America's top armaments manufacturers.

“Canaris made the United States one of Abwehr’s primary targets even before America’s entry into the conflict. By 1942, German agents were operating from within all of America’s top armaments manufacturers. Abwehr scored perhaps its greatest victories in the area of industrial espionage, as agents managed to steal the blueprint for every major American airplane produced for the war effort.”

Abwehr –

█ ADRIENNE WILMOTH LERNER

The Abwehr was the German military intelligence organization from 1866 to 1944. The organization predates the emergence of Germany itself, and was founded to gather intelligence information for the Prussian government during a war with neighboring Austria. After initial successes, the organization was expanded during the Franco-Prussian War in 1870. Under the direction of Wilhelm Stieber, Abwehr located, infiltrated, and reported on French defensive positions and operations. The Prussians claimed victory, largely because of the success of Abwehr agents. In 1871, Prussia united with other independent German states to form the nation of Germany. The new country adopted much of the former Prussian government and military structure, including the Abwehr.
The intelligence agency was again tested at the out-break of World War I in 1914. German agents worked to pinpoint the location and strength of the Allied forces, helping the German forces to invade and progress through northern France before stalemated trench warfare began. New military technology changed the nature of espionage. Agency director Walther Nicolai recognized the need for a modernized intelligence force and reorganized the department to include experts in wire tapping, munitions manufacturing, shipping, and encryption. The agency tapped enemy communications wires, intercepting and deciphering Allied dispatches with measured accomplishment. The Abwehr sent several agents to spy on the manufacture of poison gas in France, and tracked munitions production and shipping in Britain. The organization sent saboteurs to disrupt the shipment of arms from America to Allied forces in Europe. Several ships were sunk in transit after being identified by agents as smuggling arms. German agents, often acting on information collected by Abwehr, set fire to several American weapons factories and storage facilities. While the Abwehr was generally successful, the loss of the German codebook to British intelligence somewhat undermined the agency’s ultimate efficacyduring the war.
After World War I, the Abwehr ceased operation under the terms of the Versailles Treaty. The intelligence service was re-established in 1921. When the Nazis gained control of Germany in the 1930s, some members of the intelligence agency began to spy on their own government. The Nazis created a separate intelligence organization, the Sicherheitsdienst , or Security Service, headed by Reinhard Heydrich. In 1935, the new Abwehr director, Wilhelm Canaris, and Heydrich reached an agreement about the roles of each agency, but both trained and maintained their own espionage forces. Canaris reorganized the Abwehr into three branches: espionage, counter-espionage, and saboteurs. He appointed three distinguished Abwehr agents to lead the branches, but only on condition that they were not members of the Nazi party. This aroused the suspicion of rival Security Service. The two agencies came into conflict on several occasions, and as Heydrich gained power, he persuaded the government to investigate members of the Abwehr for espionage and treason. Several members of the Abwehr were arrested in 1939. Though a handful of the agency’s highest ranking officials were active as double-agents or as members of the Resistance, the organization as a whole continued its espionage operations on behalf of the German government.
At the outbreak of World War II, Abwehr resumed operations similar to those carried out during World War I. The agency was in charge of tracking troops and munitions transports, tapping wires and intercepting radio messages, and infiltrating foreign intelligence and military units. Abwehr placed two operatives inside the British intelligence agency for two years, and developed a highly successful encryption device called the Enigma machine. Agents tracked and monitored various resistance movements in occupied Europe, and even sabotaged military and government strongholds behind Allied lines.
Canaris made the United States one of Abwehr’s primary targets even before America’s entry into the conflict. By 1942, German agents were operating from within all of America’s top armaments manufacturers. Abwehr scored perhaps its greatest victories in the area of industrial espionage, as agents managed to steal the blueprint for every major American airplane produced for the war effort.
One of the Abwehr’s responsibilities during World War II was the extraction of information from prisoners of war. While Abwehr agents remained largely in control of seeking strategic information from British, French, and American prisoners, the Nazi government issued a special directive to various branches of the military regarding Russian prisoners of war. The Commissar Order, as it became known, instructed the Army to handle Russian prisoners as harshly as they deemed necessary for the retrieval of military information. At one time, German concentration camps held more that 1.5 million Russian prisoners. Canaris himself raised several objections to this policy, largely on the grounds that it undermined the authority and efficacy of his agency and could cripple the German war effort.
In 1944, Heinrich Himmler, head of the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police, assumed control of Abwehr after an unsuccessful assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler and several other high ranking Nazi officials. Himmler suspected that the plot was the work of agents inside the government, most especially the Abwehr. The July Plot also exposed the work of those Abwehr agents who had intentionally leaked sensitive information to the Allies. Several agents, including Canaris, were charged with treason and executed. The Abwehr was then dissolved.

Canaris – the Life and Death of Hitler’s Spymaster, Michael Mueller

Admiral Wilhelm Canaris began his military career in the Imperial German Navy, and served on the cruiser Dresden and in U-boats. He is most famous as the head of the Abwehr, the German Army’s military intelligence service. This made him one of the most senior figures in Nazi Germany, but his actions as head of the Abwehr were unusual to say the least!
Canaris is an intriguing character. Some of his closest associates within the Abwehr were leaders of the German resistance to Hitler – in particular Hans Oster and Hans Gisevius, but at the same time he was on good terms with Heydrich (despite the normal political infighting between parts of the Nazi machine), and appears to have had a good working relationship with Himmler. His organisation was less tainted by war crimes than most parts of the German military, but did take part in some on the Eastern Front. The opponents of the Nazis were generally restricted to the upper reaches of the organisation (and didn’t include everyone at that level), and most members of the Abwehr attempted to do their jobs loyally (if not always terribly effectively).  Canaris was directly responsible for saving a number of Jews, often by giving them jobs within the Abwehr, and then moving them out of Nazi controlled territory.
It is fair to say that senior German officers made very bad plotters. In 1938-40 they always seeming to be waiting for someone else’s actions, and as a result never actually acted. When they did finally move against Hitler in 1944 the plot was badly thought out, and unravelled in a day. To make things worse they kept detailed notes of what they were doing, and kept many of them in official buildings! Canaris was no better than the rest – his diaries, the documents that triggered his execution in the last weeks of the war, were actually found in a safe in a bunker in an Abwehr office within the OKW complex at Zossen, the home of the German Army High Command during the Second World War. Canaris was clearly supportive of the first wave of plots, although like the Generals seems to have felt that it was someone else’s task to actually carry out the plots. In 1944 he was probably aware of what was going on, but not involved.
Canaris’s early career was just as interesting. He entered the Imperial German Navy, and served on the cruiser Dresden, taking part in her voyages in the Pacific and Atlantic early in the First World War, fighting at the battles of Coronel and the Falklands, and escaping from internment in Chile. He then went on to command U-boats, and was at sea in that role when the German naval mutinies of 1918 began the fall of the Kaiser’s regime. In the post-war period he was a member of the right-wing opposition to the Weimar Republic, despite staying within the Navy. He helped shield some of the most notorious criminals of that period, and eventually had to go to sea to avoid more controversy. It was this grounding in post-war politics that brought him to the Abwehr, and at least initially made him a support of the new Nazi regime (probably).
This is an interesting biography of a most unusual man. We get a great deal of information on what Canaris did, but not a lot on his motives. As the author explains at the start, we simply don’t have the sources to access Canaris’s motives – there are no personal diaries, very few letters, and even the professional diaries only survive in fragments. The author has done a good job of ignoring the large scale post-war speculation about Canaris, which tended to portray him as one of the ‘good Germans’, a dedicated anti-Nazi. The true picture is clearly more complex, although it is still remarkable that someone who was clearly involved in plots against his own government could serve as head of a major intelligence agency for so long.

The German nuclear weapons project (GermanUranprojekt; informally known as the Uranverein; English: Uranium Society or Uranium Club) was a scientific effort led by Germany to develop and produce nuclear weapons during World War II. The first effort started in April 1939, just months after the discovery of nuclear fission in December 1938, but ended only months later due to the German invasion of Poland, after many notable physicists were drafted into the Wehrmacht.

Agency director Walther Nicolai recognized the need for a modernizedintelligence force and reorganized the department to include experts in wire tapping, munitions manufacturing, shipping, and encryption. Several ships were sunk in transit after being identified by agents as smugglingarms. German agents, often acting on information collected by Abwehr, set fire to several American weapons factories and storage facilities. While the Abwehr was generally successful, the loss of the German codebook to British intelligence somewhat undermined the agency’s ultimate efficacy during the war.
