2:13 PM 12/15/2017 – President Donald Trump said that there was tremendous anger over the FBI's disgraceful behavior

M.N.: And this is absolutely correct and the truth, regardless of his own problems. But it is more than that: the FBI’s behavior is not just “disgraceful”, it is plainly and overtly CRIMINAL in many instances, about which we simply do not know or do not know enough, and in various areas. We do have to learn about it and to understand the nature of these problems, that is why we do need the thorough, independent, objective and definitive investigation of the FBI, its work, methods, etc. I still cannot believe that the things that the FBI does are happening in America. But we better believe this, and we better look into this. This is absolutely vital and essential. Do you want your children to grow up as slaves: psychologically, morally, emotionally? And that what the FBI does, in one word: it tries to enslave people by controlling and subjugating them, in various ways, and with their various “techniques”. And at the same time, they are grossly, patently, and obviously incompetent in the Criminal Justice and the National Security matters. This situation became simply intolerable, and it demands the urgent attention of the Congress and the American people.

President Donald Trump said that there was tremendous anger over the FBI’s disgraceful behavior,

criticizing the Bureau just before he appeared at its training facility in Quantico, Virginia, to praise the nations police officers the Washington Post. Its a shame what happened to the FBI Trump told reporters as he prepared to depart for a ceremony at the FBIs National Academy, where more than 200 law enforcement officers graduated from a training program..

President Donald Trump said that there was tremendous anger over the FBIs disgraceful behavior, criticizing the Bureau just before he appeared at its training facility in Quantico, Virginia, to praise the nations police officers the Washington Post. Its a shame what happened to the FBI Trump told reporters as he prepared to depart for a ceremony at the FBIs National Academy, where more than 200 law enforcement officers graduated from a training program..In an annual press conference on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin praised President Trumps job performance, saying Washington was consumed by spy mania and that the Russian investigation was invented by people who are in opposition to Trump to characterize his work as illegitimate. The Wall Street Journal  that Putin spoke favorably about the U.S. economy, attributing rising stock exchange numbers to Trump. The Russian president also questioned the investigation of contacts between former national security adviser Michael Flynn and the former Russian ambassador to the United States, Sergey Kislyak, saying it was a world wide practice for diplomatic teams to understand what people will do if they come into power and how to react to it. Putin also dismissed his domestic competitors in the Russian presidential election. POLITICO  that Trump called Putin to thank him for his remarks on the U.S. economy, and to discuss how they can resolve the issue of North Koreas nuclear program. The two leaders spoke for 10 minutes with no one listening in, including national security adviser H.R. McMaster.
President Trump suggested this morning that he has not dismissed the idea of pardoning former national security adviser Michael Flynn after he pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI earlier this month CNN. Speaking to reporters on the South Lawn of the White House this morning, Trump said he was not ready to talk about pardons, saying well see what happens, lets see. Trump instead focused attention on the Department of Justice and the FBI, saying that people were very, very angry about what is happening at the two agencies. His lawyer for the Russia investigation, Ty Cobb, told CNN after Trumps remarks that the president is not considering pardoning Flynn.
Senate Republicans are attempting to shield special counsel Robert Mueller from mounting GOP fury about purported  evidence that his team was biased against Trumpthe Post. As House Republicans demand a special counsel to investigate Robert Mueller in the face of newly-released anti-Trump, pro-Hillary Clinton text messages between FBI agent Peter Strzok and FBI attorney Lisa Page, Senate Republicans have come to Muellers aid. Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) are among those defending Mueller, saying that the FBI officials conduct does not impinge on Muellers integrity in investigating Russian interference into the 2016 presidential election.
Robert Mueller has requested employee emails from Cambridge Analytica, a data firm that worked for President Trumps campaign to the Journal. The request sought the emails of all employees who had worked on the Trump campaign and was made before the media reported in October that Cambridge CEO Alexander Nix had contacted Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange during the 2016 presidential election. The ties between Cambridge Analytica and Wikileaks are also of interest to the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, according to that committees ranking member, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).

White House spokesman Raj Shah rebutted this assertion, saying Trump is pleased with his national security team, which includes Secretary Tillerson.

A new U.S. Army study of U.S. participation in the battle for Mosul, code-named Eagle Strike, details that difficulties in sharing imagery contributed to different understandings what was going on during hostilities the Journal. Explaining that a common operational and intelligence picture is critical, the report also raised concerns about the militarys response to the ISIS drone threat, the use of private contractors, training for urban warfare, and the means by which American forces communicated with Mosuls trapped residents. The report will be used in making training decisions, helping to inform the approach to future conflicts, according to Center for Army Lessons Learned Director Col. Mike Pappal.

NYC Woman Charged With Laundering Money Through Cryptocurrencies to ISIS

A Long Island woman A woman in Long Island has been accused of bank fraud and laundering more than $85,000 worth of Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies to support the Islamic State. The Department of Justice said on Thursday that the 27-year-old woman, Zoobia Shahnaz, is being charged with bank fraud, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and three counts of money laundering, ABC News reported.
“The defendant defrauded numerous financial institutions and obtained over $85,000 in illicit proceeds, which she converted to Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies,” the Department of Justice DOJ explained in a statement about the unsealed five-count federal court indictment.
“She then laundered and transferred the funds out of the country to support the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS),” the DOJ statement continued. “After consummating the scheme, the defendant attempted to leave the United States and travel to Syria. Shahnaz, a U.S. citizen, was arrested yesterday.”
According to the court record, Shahnaz worked as a lab technician in a hospital in Manhattan up until June 2017, and around June 2016 she volunteered in Jordan with the Syrian American Medical Society.
As part of her volunteer work, she was working in a refugee camp where the prosecutors said “ISIS exercises significant influence.”
Shahnaz’s Shahnazs attorney, Steve Zissou, said she never attempted to help ISIS and ISIS, she only wanted to help the Syrian refugees she had come across while volunteering.
“Whatever she did was for humanitarian purposes only,” Zissou said.
Yet prosecutors claim Shahnaz fraudulently obtained six credit cards and a loan from a Manhattan bank, which she then used to procure $85,000 to convert to cryptocurrencies in order to transfer the funds overseas and provide financial support to from ISIS. Agents have accused the Long Island resident of providing conflicting explanations about the wire transfers.
Shahnaz was suspected of foul play while attempting to board a suspicious flight at JFK airport in New York City on July 31. She was questioned by law enforcement officials at the airport while attempting to board a flight to Pakistan with a layover in Turkey. Her return flight was booked for Sept. 4 from Istanbul, Turkey back to JFK.
Prosecutors pointed out that ISIS recommends those who wish to travel and join ISIS buy round trip tickets because it appears less suspicious.
She is being held without bail, pending trial. Her next court date is Jan. 5.

DOJ: Early Media Release of FBI Agents Texts Were Not Authorized

The Department of Justice on Thursday acknowledged that (DOJ) has acknowledged some members of the media received copies of texts between two FBI agents before members of Congress did, and saidbut  the disclosures “were not authorized.”In  the statement to Politico, Department of Justice DOJ spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores said key members of the House Judiciary Committee were given copies of the texts between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page ahead of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein’s public testimony on Wednesday, Business Insider reports.
Some messages between Strzok and Page expressed support for Hillary Clinton and disdain toward then-presidential candiate Donald Trump during the 2016 election.
Strzok was part of the operation overseeing the Clinton email investigation, and both agents worked for a time on the special counsel investigation into alleged Russian meddling and collusion. Once the texts were uncovered over the summer, Strzok was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Muellersinvestigation and relegated to the FBI’s human-resources department. Page had previously left her stint on the team before Mueller’s office was made aware of the text messages.
After sharing the text messages with lawmakers, the Department of Justice’s DOJs public affairs division then shared the same messages with reporters, but some members of the media “had already received copies.”
“As we understand now, some members of the media had already received copies of the texts before thatbut that but those disclosures were not authorized by the department,” Flores said.
The text were uncovered in July as part of an ongoing investigation by the Department of Justice’s DOJinspector general into how the FBI handled the probe into Clinton’s use of a private email server while serving as secretary of state.
Department of Justice DOJ official on Wednesday told Business Insider the department “often” provided reporters with the information they give to congressional Congressional committees to “avoid any confusion.”
The department’s DOJs statements were made in response to Democratic ranking members of the House Judiciary Committee asking for an explanation of the early media release, and inquiring whetherif the Office of Inspector General (OIG) was consulted before the release. The Democrats also sent a similar letter to Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz.
The department DOJ consulted with a senior career ethics adviser advisor who, despite Flores’ description that the release was not initially authorized, authorize, “determined that there were no legal or ethical concerns, including under the Privacy Act, that prohibited the release of the information to the public either by members of Congress or by the department,” Politico reported.
Rosenstein also addressed the release of information to the media on Wednesday during the public hearing.
“Generally speaking, our goal is to be as forthcoming with the media as we can, when it is lawful and appropriate to do so,” Rosenstein said during the hearing. “So I would not approve anybody disclosing something that was not appropriate to disclose.”

This Is the Navy’s Master Plan to Kill China’s Aircraft Carriers

James HolmesSecurity, Asia

Beijing won’t like this one bit.

Fortress China is festooned with airfields and mobile antiship weaponry able to strike hundreds of miles out to sea. Yes, the U.S. Navy remains stronger than the PLA Navy in open-sea battle. A fleet-on-fleet engagement isolated from shore-based reinforcements would probably go Americas way. But that hypothetical result may not make much difference since the two navies are more likely to join battle in confined Asian waters than on the open ocean.
Ah, yes, the carrier-killer. China is forever touting the array of guided missiles its weaponeers have devised to pummel U.S. Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carriers (CVNs). Most prominent among them are its DF-21D and DF-26 antiship ballistic missiles (ASBMs), which the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) has made a mainstay of Chinas anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD) defenses.

Beijing has made believers of important audiences, including the scribes who toil away at the Pentagon producing estimates of Chinese martial might. Indeed, the most recent annual report on Chinese military power states matter-of-factly that the PLA can now use DF-21Ds to attack ships, including aircraft carriers, more than nine hundred statute miles from Chinas shorelines.

President Trump Escalates Criticism of F.B.I. Role in Russia Inquiry

President Trump spoke to reporters on Friday before departing for an event at the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, Va.CreditAl Drago for The New York Times

WASHINGTON — President Trump escalated his criticism of the F.B.I. on Friday over its investigation of possible links between Russia and his campaign, calling the inquiry a “very sad thing to watch.”

“It’s a shame what’s happened with the F.B.I.,”

the president told reporters before departing for an event at the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, Va. “It’s a very sad thing to watch.”

Without citing specifics,

Mr. Trump said there was an extraordinary “level of anger” at the F.B.I. over the investigation.

He labeled “disgraceful” recently released text messages between one of the agents on the investigation and a lawyer for the bureau who were critical of him. The special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, removed the agent from the investigation as soon as he learned of the texts.

The president also said it was premature to discuss whether he would pardon Michael T. Flynn, his former national security adviser who pleaded guilty this month to lying to the F.B.I. in connection with the investigation.

Mr. Trump has shown open disdain for the F.B.I., saying that the standing of the nation’s premier law enforcement agency was the “worst in history” and its reputation was in “tatters.”

Last week, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the White House press secretary, said that the president supported the F.B.I. director, Christopher A. Wray, and rank-and-file agents — but that

he had issues with top brass who served under the previous F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, whom the president fired in May.

She also said that the president’s characterization of the bureau “in tatters” would not undermine people’s faith in the institution.

Mr. Wray, in testimony to Congress recently, strongly defended the F.B.I., telling its 35,000 agents and support staff that he was “inspired by example after example of professionalism and dedication to justice demonstrated around the bureau.”

But the president’s criticism was notable because of his long-stated belief that the Justice Department investigation into links between his campaign and Russia was a “witch hunt.”

He was to speak later Friday morning to the F.B.I. National Academy, a bureau program that offers advanced training for American and foreign law enforcement officers who have been recognized for their leadership potential.

But when we disaggregate the millennial vote by race and ethnicity we find some interesting things including, notably, that 41 percent of white millennials voted for Donald Trump in 2016. Why? Two popular explanations have emerged post-election: 1

How Arthur Sulzberger Outwitted Don Graham

For the sixth time in the last 121 years, the New York Times has a new publisher: Arthur Gregg Sulzberger, son of Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr., grandson of Arthur O. (Punch) Sulzberger, great-grandson of Arthur well, you get the idea. Its a family business.
So, once, were the other two crown jewels of the American newspaper industry, the Wall Street Journaland the Washington Post. The Bancroft family, which owned the Journal, was never really emotionally vested in the paper; until it was sold to Rupert Murdoch in 2007, the Bancrofts generally treated it as an investment. But Donald Graham of the Post, and Arthur O. Sulzberger Jr., who announced his retirement as publisher of the Times today, were a neatly matched pair: the energetic scions of two great newspaper dynasties, the anointed heirs of legendary parents (Katharine Graham, Punch Sulzberger). Both of the sons did their time climbing the ladder at their respective papers, even if with the assistance of equerries, retainers and an intimate connection to the boss. Both worked on the business side, both worked as reporters, they touched the bases. Then they took over.
And throughout the period that they ran their respective papers, Graham was generally celebrated, and Sulzberger often derided. Don (as everyone called him, intimately, except for those who went one step further to Donnie) was approachable and humble, comfortable in any circumstances. He wore down jackets to the office, knew the names of every reporter, receptionist, press operator. He knew their wives names and their childrens names. He didnt draw attention to himself. Hed pick a chief editor and stay with him forever.
Arthur was never blessed with the halo of reputation bestowed on Don. He tried too hard. He bristled when people called him Pinch, as detractors often did. He affected approachability, but wouldnt allow himself to get close to staff members. In expensively tailored shirts and suits, he was formally informal, trying (despite the evidence) to be the man of the people he never was. He could make public statements that would cause his staff to wince. He hired editors too soon, fired them too late. Or vice versa.
But when there were long-term decisions to be made decisions that would shape each papers future for years to come Arthur was right, and Don was wrong. Don took his paper small, abjuring nationwide circulation, and focusing instead (hed like to say) on serving our community, as if Washington were Wichita. He bet on local ads at the last moment before classifieds disappeared and retail began to dry up. His faith in the future of the internet was so minimal that he set up washingtonpost.com in an entirely separate office, across the river in Virginia consigning it to the crippling perception, among most of the papers journalists, that it was minor league (sorry, Virginians). He kept the companys stock price afloat (as well as the newspaper itself) with the cash generated by the Washington Post Companys most profitable division, the three-card-monte game better known as Kaplan, Inc., a specialist in test prep, diploma mills and federally guaranteed loan scams. And in the end economic realities compelled him to sell the paper to Amazon.com billionaire Jeff Bezos in journalism terms, doubtless the best decision Donald Graham ever made.
During roughly the same span of years, Arthur took his paper national. Today, barely one-third of the Timess print circulation comes from outside of the tri-state region that had long been its focused market. He made deals with publishers across the country to print and distribute the paper, in a way helping their businesses as well as his own. He invested early and determinedly in the internet, and now has the most successful English-language news-site on the planet, with a staggering 2.5 million digital-only subscribers.
There are several things about Arthur Sulzberger that you could criticize, or at least find uncomfortable: His eccentric sense of humor, which could lead him to make the wrong jokes at the wrong times in various public venues. An editorial page that was, until recently, as exciting as a meditation seminar, and that remains as predictable as a Senate Republican (not to mention a collection of op-ed columnists who run the ideological spectrum from A to, oh, slightly this side of G). His selection in 2005 of a questionable horse (the discredited reporter Judith Miller) to ride in a dangerous press freedom case involving the protection of anonymous sources. At the time, it appeared as if he were trying to become a hero like his father, who famously stood up to Richard Nixon by publishing the Pentagon Papers. Judy Miller wasnt the Pentagon Papers.
Its also true that the one time they went toe-to-toe, Donnie outmaneuvered Arthur: Their two companies shared ownership of the International Herald Tribune until 2003, when Arthur insisted on taking over the whole thing and got his way a victory he may, and from a financial standpoint definitely should, regret today. But as 2017 comes to an end, the Graham family is divorced from the industry that sustained it for decades. And at the Times, the Sulzberger family, in its fifth generation of intense involvement with what they have always considered a public trust, is still in charge a gift to its readers, hand-delivered by Arthur O. Sulzberger, Jr.
For A.G. Sulzberger, Arthurs son and successor, there could be no better place to start.
Why 41 percent of white millennials voted for Trump

It wasn’t economic loss. It was racial grievances.

Exodus: Jews Flee Paris Suburbs Over Rising Tide of Anti-Semitism

Members of French Jewish community walk in a street of Paris, Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017. If far-right candidate Marine Le Pen wins the upcoming presidential election, she plans to ban religious symbols from French streets, which would impact on Jews who would no longer be allowed to wear their kippa head-coverings, and Muslims who would no longer be allowed to wear headscarfs in public which may dramatically alter the country's urban landscape. (AP Photo/Jeffrey Schaeffer)
French-Jewish families are being forced from their homes in Paris suburbs on the back of hostility from newly-arrived Middle East refugees, as Europe continues to be convulsed by levels of anti-Semitism not seen since the end of the Second World War.

9:22 AM 12/15/2017 – Mueller asked the data firm Cambridge Analytica to turn over the emails of its employees

TRUMP-RUSSIA
Democratic lawmakers have called on the Justice Department to explain why it released anti-Trump text messages shared between top F.B.I. agent Peter Strzok and F.B.I. lawyer Lisa Page, both of whom are under investigation for their work on special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Darren Samuelsohn reports at POLITICO.
Senate Republicans have sought to protect Mueller from attacks by the Republican Party, the Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (Iowa) said that he has confidence in Mueller. The comments by Republican senators demonstrate an attempt to separate Mueller from the political storm that has surrounded him since the revelations that members of his team held anti-Trump sentiments, Karoun Demirjian reports at the Washington Post.

Mueller asked the data firm Cambridge Analytica to turn over the emails of its employees

who worked on the Trump campaign and the firm complied with the request. Separately, an individual familiar with the matter said that the chief executive of Cambridge Analytica answered questions put to him by the House Intelligence Committee via videoconference yesterday, Rebecca Ballhaus reports at the Wall Street Journal.
Relations between the U.S. and Russia are being undermined by the political opposition to Trump, the Russian President Vladimir Putin said yesterday, claiming that the allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election were invented and added that he hopes that Trump still wants to improve relations. Andrew Roth and David Filipov report at the Washington Post.
Fourteen former national security, intelligence and foreign policy officials have filed an amicus brief against the Trump campaign and Trump’s adviser Roger Stone, outlining how the Kremlin used local actors to influence politics during the 2016 U.S. election. Natasha Bertrand reports at Business Insider.
Trump continues to reject evidence that Russia interfered in U.S. democracy and his stance undermines the government’s response to a national security threat. Greg Miller, Greg Jaffe and Philip Rucker explain at the Washington Post.
There is a growing body of evidence showing links between Trump associates and Russian operatives, David Ignatius breaks down what is known till now at the Washington Post and says that the president has been blustering because the law and the facts are against him.
The TRUMP ADMINISTRATION
White House officials have been frustrated by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, expressing exasperation at Tillerson’s comments this week calling for negotiations with North Korea, with one White House official saying that Tillerson “had not learned his lesson” from the previous instance when he called for talks, the atmosphere of distrust has increased speculation that Tillerson will leave his post in the near future. Josh Dawsey and Anne Gearan report at the Washington Post.
Critics of national security adviser H.R. McMaster have accused him of hurting efforts to recruit members to a key intelligence advisory board, demonstrating the latest apparent quarrel within the Trump administration. Jenna McLaughlin reports at Foreign Policy.

Senate Judiciary Committee targets Mike Pence in the Trump-Russia scandal

With each passing day it becomes more apparent that Donald Trump is going down for his Russia scandal. Four of his advisers have been arrested. Two of them have cut deals to help the prosecution. One of them is Michael Flynn, the key to unraveling everything. Now that Trump’s demise is playing out, Mike Pence seems to think he’s about to inherit the presidency. But his own role in the scandal and coverup is suddenly blowing up on him as well.
For reasons known only to him, Mike Pence bent over backwards in early 2017 to try to protect Michael Flynn, even after he had learned that Flynn was dirty. Congressman Elijah Cummings notified Pence in November of 2016 that Flynn was on the take from foreign governments, yet Pence went on to use his role as head of the transition team to steer Flynn into the sensitive National Security Adviser position. Pence also went on national television and asserted that as far as he knew, Flynn was clean. Now that Flynn has cut a deal, it’s created yet another paper trail back to Pence and a key Senate committee is now pursuing it.
Immediately after Flynn cut a plea deal, it leaked to the media that he notified several unnamed members of the transition team about his Russia conspiracy. This makes it all but impossible for Pence, the head of the transition team, not to have known. Senate Judiciary Committee ranking member Dianne Feinstein is going directly after the Trump campaign. She’s sent a letter demanding additional details about this incident, and while she doesn’t state that Mike Pence is her target, it’s clear that she’s seeking to prove his complicity.
Meanwhile we learned this week that Mike Pence now expects to be interviewed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. This means that Mueller is looking to either take Pence down, or force Pence to cut a plea deal which would lead to his resignation and cooperation against Donald Trump. Feinstein is targeting Pence right now for a reason. You can read her letter here.
