Russia Collusion Probe Is FBI Corruption at Its Worst

mikenova shared this story from Breitbart News.

Speaking at the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition’s 6th Anniversary Convention, Fitton said the “unelected bureaucracy” in the Justice Department and the FBI — in some cases, political appointees of the Obama administration, were “breaking the rules to bring down a duly-elected president,” and violating laws “beyond what Richard Nixon ever contemplated.”
“Nothing in recent American history compares to what we think we know,” he said.
He said those DOJ and FBI officials misused the ability to spy on foreign nations granted under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to spy on the political opposition, and then leak the classified results to generate a “fake criminal investigation.” It was “part of the conspiracy of the Clinton campaign to target her political opponent,” he added.
Their goal now is to remove President Trump by “indictment or impeachment,” he said. “That’s what’s going on right now.”
So far, it has been revealed that the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee hired Fusion GPS through a law firm to conduct anti-Trump research into his business ties in Russia. The research later became known as the Trump dossier.
Fusion GPS’s co-founder, Glenn Simpson, in August claimed that the author of the dossier, ex-British spy Christopher Steele, was so alarmed by a ridiculous story he heard about Trump paying prostitutes during a trip to Moscow in 2013 to perform a “Golden Showers,” that he went to the FBI, fearing the Russians could blackmail Trump.
Weeks later, the FBI launched an investigation into the Trump campaign. The dossier was also reportedly used to to obtain a warrant to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page from a secret FISA court.
It has also been revealed that during the campaign, senior FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page — who had both worked on the Clinton email investigation and on the special counsel — exchanged hundreds of texts on how much they detested Trump and about an “insurance policy” in the case Trump won.
Fitton said if the FBI was truly worried the dossier revealed a blackmail situation with Trump, they would have gone to then-candidate Trump to warn him and offer their help. Instead, he said, the dossier was used “as an excuse to spy on him and his people. No doubt about that.”
Fitton, whose group’s investigation into the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack forced the revelation that Hillary Clinton used a private email server while secretary of state, said those same officials who are still working at the DOJ and the FBI, — and even some Trump appointees — were making it difficult for the group to obtain documents requested by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
He blamed “fear-based decision making” for the resistance, and applauded House Republicans for successfully prying information out of the agencies, after threatening to hold them in contempt.
The House intelligence committee in recent months ramped up pressure on the DOJ and FBI to unveil requested documents and interviews related to their handling of the dossier. The committee has put together a memo detailing their findings, and is set to release it in coming weeks.
“We’re glad that Congress is finally taking some steps to force this information out,” Fitton said. “They had to threaten Trump’s Justice Department and FBI with contempt to get these records.”
But he cautioned that even with the release of the memo, the fight for the truth would not be over. He expressed skepticism that the classified material summarized in the memo would be released, such as the FISA warrant used to get the warrant on Page.
“One memo getting released isn’t going to solve the problem. We have to be persistent,” he said. But, he added, “We’re winning, and there’s a lot more winning to be done.”

Trump dossier. Christopher Steele, the former MI6 agent who set-up Orbis Business Intelligence and compiled a dossier on Donald Trump, in London where he has spoken to the media for the first time.

Russia collusion investigation is far from a ‘witch hunt’

“Does this concern you at all?” asks a tart email message from a Trump supporter who wonders why the mainstream media doesn’t take a closer look at allegations that the Justice Department’s investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election has been tainted by bias.
It’s a fair question. President Donald Trump has made very serious charges, tweeting in December that the FBI’s “reputation is in Tatters — worst in History!” And Republicans in Congress have claimed that the bureau was manipulated by a former British intelligence officer named Christopher Steele, who supposedly pumped up allegations about Trump-Russia collusion with a “dossier” that was financed by Hillary Clinton.
What’s true here and what’s false? A careful look at the evidence rebuts the claim that the FBI was misused by Steele and that the bureau’s operations are in disarray. Republicans delude themselves in claiming that the Russia probe is a partisan concoction. Trump operatives have admitted in plea agreements that they lied to the FBI about their contacts with Russia.
In a rational world, Trump would apologize for smearing America’s top investigative agency, but that’s not where we live right now. So let’s instead listen to FBI Director Christopher Wray, who was appointed by Trump after James Comey was fired. Wray told a House committee last month:
“What I can tell you is (I see) tens of thousands of agents and analysts and staff working their tails off to keep Americans safe from the next terrorist attack, gang violence, child predators, spies from Russia, China and North Korea, and Iran.”
Several bureau veterans offered similar assessments; Trump’s comments offended even Comey’s detractors in the FBI.
What about Republican claims that Steele spawned what Trump calls a “witch hunt”? It’s true that Steele was hired by Fusion GPS, an investigative firm paid to dig up dirt on Trump, first by Republican opponents, then by Clinton supporters. But Steele went through well-established contacts, and the FBI got serious only after it obtained its own independent information.
Steele’s main FBI connection was a senior agent he had met in 2010, when he shared information about corruption in the international soccer federation known as FIFA. Steele, who had retired from MI6 the year before, had been retained as a private investigator by the Football Association in England. His FBI contact was involved in international organized-crime investigations. The FIFA investigation helped bring Justice Department indictments in 2015 that toppled the organization’s leadership.
So when Steele contacted the FBI in mid-2016 with information about Trump and the Russians, he was already a valued source. Around July 4, 2016, he met with his FBI friend in London to share what he had gathered for a June 20 Fusion GPS report, the first chapter of his eventual dossier. In that first report, Steele’s sources claimed that Russia had been “cultivating” Trump for at least five years.
Steele’s information didn’t get much high-level attention at first. But bells began ringing in July, after Australian intelligence told the FBI about an unusual conversation two months earlier between Australia’s London ambassador and George Papadopoulos, a Trump foreign-policy adviser. The Australians decided to share this intelligence with the FBI after hacked Democratic emails were published in July.
Based on the Australian account, knowledgeable sources say, the bureau requested another meeting with Steele to dig deeper. That encounter took place around Oct. 1 in Rome with Steele’s old FBI contact. At this meeting, the FBI official asked Steele if he had ever heard of Papadopoulos, according to an official familiar with the meeting. Steele hadn’t.
So, far from a yarn concocted by Steele, the FBI probe was driven by its own independent reporting about Papadopoulos, who pleaded guilty last October to lying about his Russia contacts. The bottom line: There may be something in tatters at the center of this investigation, but it isn’t the FBI.
A question for Republicans in Congress who have been so quick to trash FBI officials and defend Trump: Does this concern you at all?
David Ignatius writes a column for the Washington Post.

Robert Mueller is pursuing Donald Trump on charges that sound a lot like treason

Months ago, Donald Trump gave Israeli classified intelligence to the Russian government during an Oval Office meeting, creating an international incident and likely getting a valuable Israeli asset killed in the process. Because Trump has had so many additional scandals since, the public has largely forgotten about the debacle. But as it turns out, Special Counsel Robert Mueller hasn’t forgotten about it one bit. In fact he’s now investigating Trump for it and the whole thing is starting to sound an awful lot like a treason investigation.
The details of the classified Israeli mission the one Trump ruined by telling the Russians about it have been spelled out by Vanity Fair in a lengthy profile (link). Here’s the buried lede in that article: “Trumps disturbing choice to hand over highly sensitive intelligence to the Russians is now a focus of special counsel Robert Muellers investigation into Trumps relationship with Russia, both before and after the election.”
So now we know that Mueller isn’t merely investigating how Trump and his campaign colluded with Russia to rig the outcome of the election. Instead, Mueller is fully investigating the underlying nature of the relationship between Trump and Russia. He’s focusing on Trump’s decision to give a U.S. ally’s classified intel to the Russians, because it gets at the heart of why Trump is so beholden to the Russians.
In fact, if Robert Mueller views Donald Trump’s decision to feed intel to the Russians as a crime, then that crime would be something along the lines of treason. He purposely sabotaged the United States and its allies for the benefit of the Russian government. There is scholarly debate as to whether Russia’s election hacking legally qualifies as the act of war required to allow for actual treason charges. But even if not, it’s clear that Mueller is targeting Trump for at the least something along the lines of conspiracy against the United States.
The post Robert Mueller is pursuing Donald Trump on charges that sound a lot like treason appeared first on Palmer Report.

That’s not quite accurate. Towards the end of Dubya’s term, they changed the definition of deportation and who gets counted when tabulating ICE’s statistics. Until recent years, most people caught crossing the border where bused back into Mexico under what was called voluntary returns and these weren’t counted in the deportation statistics. It was basically catch and release. Under Bush and accelerated under Obama, people caught crossing illegally are fingerprinted, have formal charges in their records and are counted as deported. In the 1990s, there were over 1 million of these voluntary returns recorded per year. And if you read the article that you attached:In fiscal year 2015, 91 percent of people removed from inside the U.S. were previously convicted of a crime. The administration made the first priority threats to national security, border security, and public safety. That includes gang members, convicted felons or charged with aggravated felony and anyone apprehended at the border trying to enter the country illegally. In 2015, 81 percent, or 113,385, of the removals were the priority one removals.Seems to me that getting rid of violent criminals makes more sense in terms of allocation of resources than getting rid of a father of two who has lived here 30 years and paid his taxes … unless of course you’re deporting him because you’re Trump and you’re not fond of the colour of his skin.
