The prize honors the inventions of optical tweezers and chirped pulse amplification

nobel medal physics

Three scientists who invented innovative ways to manipulate light have won the Nobel Prize in physics. The 9-million-Swedish-kronor award (about $1 million) will be doled out to Arthur Ashkin of Bell Laboratories in Holmdel, N.J., Gérard Mourou of École Polytechnique in Palaiseau, France, and Donna Strickland of the University of Waterloo in Canada, the Nobel Prize committee announced October 2.
Ashkin, who will receive half of the prize, invented optical tweezers, a tool that can grab particles, viruses and even living cells with beams of light and move them around. The tweezers were first used to trap living bacteria without harming them in 1987. The tools are now used in laboratories worldwide to investigate the inner lives of cells and DNA.
The technique also led to a method to trap and cool individual atoms with lasers, which won the 1997 Nobel prize in physics.
The other half of the prize will be split between Mourou and Strickland, who invented a way to compress light into unprecedentedly short and intense pulses. Their technique, called chirped pulse amplification, takes a short laser pulse, stretches it, amplifies it and squeezes it again to create ultrafast beams of light.
Strickland, who was a Ph.D. student at the time, is the third woman to receive the Nobel Prize in physics. “I am honored to be one of those women,” she said during the news conference announcing the prize. “We need to celebrate women physicists because we’re out there.”

“In May 2018, the Irish Independent reported that “Germany‘s foreign intelligence service secured a sample of the Soviet-developed nerve agent Novichok in the 1990s and passed on its knowledge to partners including Britain and the US, according to German media reports.” The sample was analysed in Sweden.[51] Small amounts of the Novichok nerve agent were subsequently produced in some NATO countries for test purposes.[52]
“Leonid Rink, an employee of GosNIIOKhT, received a one-year suspended sentence for selling Novichok agents to unnamed buyers “of Chechen ethnicity” soon after the poisoning of Kivelidi and Izmailova.”[85][86]

M.N.: This means that the broad range of actors, from the German Intelligence (and the New Abwehr) to Chechens, could be in possession of some amounts of “Novichok” and  they can be viewed as potential suspects as organisers and masterminds of this occurrence.

Poisoning of Ivan Kivelidi and Zara Ismailova

Supposed Novichok agent formula from the forensic analysis in the Kivelidi case[75]

The forerunner of Novichok agents, substance-33 (frequently also referred to simply as “Novichok”)[76]has been reportedly used in 1995 to poison Russian banker Ivan Kivelidi (ru), the head of the Russian Business Round Table, with close ties to the then Russian Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin,[77] and Zara Ismailova, his secretary.[78][79][80][81][82] Russian opposition-linked historians Yuri Felshtinsky and Vladimir Pribylovsky speculated that the murder became “one of the first in the series of poisonings organised by Russia’s security services”. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs analysed the substance and announced that it was “a phosphorus-based military-grade nerve agent”[83] “whose formula was strictly classified”.[83] According to Nesterov, the administrative head of Shikhany, he did not know of “a single case of such poison being sold illegally” and noted that the poison “is used by professional spies”.[83]
Vladimir Khutsishvili, a former business partner of the banker, was subsequently convicted of the killings.[78] According to The Independent, “A closed trial found that his business partner had obtained the substance via intermediaries from an employee of the State Research Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology (ru) (GosNIIOKhT),[84] which was involved in the development of Novichoks. However, Khutsishvilli, who claimed that he was innocent, had not been detained at the time of the trial and freely left the country. He was only arrested in 2006 after he returned to Russia, believing that the ten-year old case was closed.[83] Felshtinsky and Pribylovsky claimed that Khutsishvilli was framed for the murder by Russia’s security services, which had access to the chemical agent, and used it to organise the murder on the orders of a senior Russian state official.[83]
Leonid Rink, an employee of GosNIIOKhT, received a one-year suspended sentence for selling Novichok agents to unnamed buyers “of Chechen ethnicity” soon after the poisoning of Kivelidi and Izmailova.”[85][86]

Salisbury novichok suspect helped Ukraine’s deposed president flee country, new investigation claims
mikenova shared this story .

Anatoly Chepiga, the military intelligence colonel identified as one of the two suspects in the Salisbury poisoning, received Russia’s highest military award for his role smuggling former president Viktor Yanukovych out of Ukraine in 2014, it has been claimed.
new report by the Dossier Center, a group funded by exiled oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, has tracked several addresses where Mr Chepiga is registered. One, a student dormitory in southern Moscow, he shares with a dozen other servicemen with similarly blank public records. The report suggests that these men, too, could be intelligence officers.

If true, it would continue a miserable run for Russia’s secret elite. Two weeks ago, it was revealed that dozens of agents could be identified from passport records.
Mr Chepiga was, the report says, alongside Mr Yanukovych when he scurried from his gilded Mezhyhirya residence outside Kiev on 22 February, and when he left the country from Crimea a day later.

Such a complex and fraught operation does tally with the exceptional nature of the Hero of the Russian Federation award, only a handful of which are awarded each year. But The Independent has not been able to verify the claim, and notes that it hinges on the testimony of one unidentified source.
The report’s author, investigative journalist Sergei Kanyev, told The Independent that he was unable to extract further information from his source. “He has over 30 years of experience. I have no reason to doubt him,” he said.
But another report published on Monday by the Novaya Gazeta newspaper offered a different version of events, suggesting Mr Chepiga had been awarded the honour for operations in Crimea itself.
It also suggested that the young Mr Chepiga had benefited from connections in the right places in regional government, pushing him up the intelligence hierarchy.
Moscow has denied any role in the poisoning by nerve agent of Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia Skripal. It has said that the two men identified by British detectives are ordinary citizens, and claims to have had no knowledge of the GRU officer Mr Chepiga, identified by investigative outlets Bellingcat and The Insider.

M.N.: The Boshirov-Chepiga – Dyumin connection (as implied leaders in the operation of rescuing Yanukovych) might have some “low flying” homophobic undercurrents and political purposes: to revive the rumors about the gay relationship between Putin and Dyumin, his former bodyguard. The similarity with the homophobic attacks on Macron are obvious.

M.N.: This is the direct threat from the Demiurge: the substance, “Novichok” or any other, could be used easily, against anyone and at any time. This episode also looks like a device to draw the attention to the issues of Chemical Weapons which always were of the special interest to the Germans, with the New Abwehr retaining or obtaining some supplies.

Porton Down – Wikipedia
“In 1970, the senior establishment at Porton Down was renamed the Chemical Defence Establishment (CDE) for the next 21 years. Preoccupation with defence against nerve agents continued, but in the 1970s and 1980s, the Establishment was also concerned with studying reported chemical warfare by Iraq against Iran and against its own Kurdishpopulation.[5]
Porton Down was the laboratory where initial samples of the Ebola virus were sent in 1976 during the first confirmed outbreak of the disease in Africa. The laboratory now contains samples of some of the world’s most aggressive pathogens, including Ebola, anthrax and the plague, and is leading the UK’s current research into viral inoculations.[6]

This historical analogy with Otto Skorzeny is striking and most likely, it contains the main clue to those events: the New Abwehr was behind the “Operation Yanukovych” from the beginning to the end. They lifted him with the help of the Manafort’s Jaws, just like a seagull lifts a crab on a beach, only to drop it from the highest highs, in order to break its hard bony shell, and to consume the fresh and delicious crab meat salad for lunch. That’s the Abwehr’s style.
This must explain, at least in part, the recently reported violent encounter between the two men, Putin and Yanukovich who apparently blamed his loss on Putin and, possibly on the Germans.
So, everything: from the Putin’s poisoning by Dioxin, described, as the hypothesis, earlier in my blogs, to the Yanukovich’s elections, to prosecution of Timoshenko, to snipers on Kiyev rooftops, to panicky escape to Crimea, was, it looks like, designed and managed by the Demiurge in his (unlikely “her”) psycho-historical reality show screenplay.

Как говорят американцы, the shirt is nearer than the coat — рубашка ближе (к телу), чем пальто.
Захватывающий детектив must go on.

Ru

mikenova shared this story from НТВ.
