Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in a country without the ever-present political bickering we see constantly? I can remember a day when once things were softer, quieter, and more gentle.

In that regard, I was touched when a friend told me of a recent dream she had while in a deep sleep. In this dream, America was an underwater civilization. We all lived in deep-sea castles, and things were pretty much the same except for the bickering. Oh, Politics could still get tense, but there wasn’t the screaming, the anger, the HATE — that there is today.

So yes, the languid dream of my friend got me thinking of what we could do to ease tensions in this country. And one thing I see talked about everywhere is who will lead the House.

It will likely not be a Democrat. I see yearnings for that, but Republicans did win the House. They won it by the skin of their teeth, but they still won it. Right now, McCarthy does not have the votes. That could change tomorrow. But then again — it might not.

And wouldn’t it be so lovely to have a SANE republican as House speaker? That would do a heck of a lot of good in clamping back the insanity of the crazed investigations some in the GOP are planning. It would help with some of the anger. Many are speaking of Liz Cheney. And I mean it when I say many.

Large amounts of people — including some Republicans — are suggesting that if some moderate Republicans were to vote with Democrats, it is possible she could be elected speaker. Stranger things have happened.

The House Speaker doesn’t have to be an elected representative. They can choose anyone. Another name floating about is former Michigan representative Justin Amash. He’d spoken up against Trump, which many of his fellow republicans did not like. He eventually left the GOP to become a Libertarian.

And he is saying he might have an interest. “If neither party has the votes to elect a speaker of the House, I’d be happy to serve as a non-partisan speaker who ensures the institution works as it’s supposed to.”

I do have stars in my eyes, thinking of the vast possibilities. And stranger things than this have come to pass. I suppose we will have to wait and see.
