It’s sad. Mike Pence is sad. And he’s growing sadder every day. You know, I never believed Pence should be given hero status for January 6. Yes, he did not try to overthrow the Government. Yes, he did his job. And yes, we were all mighty glad he came out of it all OK.

But all he did was what we expect our elected officials to do. Have we really fallen so far that we’d call that heroic? And what’s even sadder is Pence emerged with the chance to revamp his tarnished image. Until January 6, he was seen as obsequious, the ultimate boot licking trump sycophant.

So when he stood up to trump, there was a real possibility for him to emerge with a shining, cleaner image. Sadly Pence did what many a republican has done before him – he screwed himself.

Pence on Friday came out against the release of Brittney Griner. On “America Reports,” Pence proudly touted how in the trump administration, they never would have even THOUGHT of doing such a thing.

This was not a good move on Pence’s part. And it shows once again how out of step Pence is with the American people. Pence cannot seem to keep his mouth shut. Everybody knows he wants to run for President. Everyone knows he isn’t going to win. Everyone knows he might get a lucrative book deal out of it.

But Pence, one would assume, would at least make an effort to be in the middle. Instead, Pence happily appears on television, bragging about how his former administration (the one with a President who perhaps would happily have seen him hung) would have let American prisoners rot in Russian prison cells.

This isn’t unlike how Pence demanded Republicans come out in favor of a national abortion ban. At this point, he seems unable or perhaps unwilling to even attempt to be in the mainstream. And he’s hurt his image much more than he needed to. Then again, this is Mike Pence — the man who agreed to be Donald Trump’s vice president in the first place. Good decision-making does not seem to be his strong point.
