Get ready, Palmer Report readers. It’s only a short time now until the main event. It’s going to be a dark and defiantly eerie event coming up. The halls might possibly be haunted by chaos, shouting, betrayals, strange noises of rage and contempt, and hair-raising events guaranteed to make many of the attendees get chills down their necks.

It’s the haunting of the House floors on Capitol Hill. It’s the haunting of Republican beasts, of lonely, miserable, infamous republicans with, of course, Kevin McCarthy at the top of the list. He doesn’t have the votes, people. Not yet. And he is a mess.

Reportedly there was a conference meeting on Sunday. McCarthy is offering key concessions, including, as I mentioned in another article, giving in on the motion to vacate the chair. But it’s still not enough, according to some who oppose him. Andy Biggs of Arizona is now openly deriding him, saying Kevin is in full “bargaining mode.” In other words — he’s begging.

Now keep in mind that if no speaker emerges on the first ballot, they will likely head to another. And Biggs, speaking with Steve Bannon speculated that it is quite possible that MORE people — not less — will come out against Kevin in the second ballot or at a point after that.

“If it goes three, four, five ballots, he’s done,” Biggs said. “And someone else will be there.” This is a lesson in karma. Look — it is possible that Kevin could still pull it out. But let me be clear — every hour — every second that ticks by where he can’t get the votes are another nail in his speaker coffin.

And he brought it all on himself. There are many ways of haunting someone. Haunting is usually associated with the supernatural. But people can be haunted by their own selves. They can be mentally tortured by their actions.

McCarthy, if he loses this position, will be haunted. Not by guilt, not by any thoughts of humility. But — he will be haunted by failure — the fact that he has become next to nothing in politics.

If Kevin McCarthy loses, his political career is, for all intents and purposes, o-v-e-r. Over. Done. Extinguished. Yes, that is something to be haunted about.
