Panoptes from Greek mythology: a giant with a hundred eyes. This picture also evokes the associations with “taking the log out of your own eye”.
FBI As The Hundred-Eyed And Totally And Legally Blind Monster – By Michael Novakhov – Topic: FBI Surveillance
M.N.: FBI: the United States, the World, and the human behavior and human soul ARE NOT your “Panopticon” – as the objects of your malignant, pernicious, perverse, ineffectual obsession with the mass surveillance! The most amazing thing about the FBI surveillance is that they survey everything that moves, talks, and whispers, and yet remain utterly blind to what really goes on. Investigate the investigators! Save America! Reform the FBI now!
M.N.:
This current discussion about the
is a good illustration of the FBI’s traditional (apparently)
- siege mentality, or
- mass surveillance mentality, or, as we learned now, the
- Panopticon Prison mentality,
which are essentially one and the same thing: a
- master-slave mentality.
FBI, pay attention and listen to what I say:
FBI, you are not Panoptes, a hundred-eyed watchman, but a miserable and laughable parody of him. You are not able to assess, evaluate, and analyze properly the information that you collect, and the legal-ethical foundations of the mass surveillance are flimsy at best. But most importantly, this approach appears to be practically absolutely, 100% inefficient, and therefore practically useless. In addition, the security risks associated with the broadly based sharing of the collected information, and the potential for mis-use and abuse within the system seem to be obvious.
The United States, the World, and the human behavior and human soul ARE NOT your “Panopticon” Prison – as the objects of your malignant, pernicious, perverse, ineffectual obsession with the mass surveillance! This is the KGB type of the vision and concept.
This story, together with some other pieces of information lead to thoughts about the usefulness of the comprehensive, objective, and independent investigation of the Obama’s FBI. The leftist leaning and precepts might have been the influence on the positions on the security services in the previous Administration, and on the FBI specifically, with some conceptual borrowing from the leftist, rightist, and totalitarian, KGB-Gestapo type, Russian-Chinese playbooks and practices, although carefully masked. FBI is of the type of the domestic security monsters who are always feeling hungry, underfed, underpaid, and underappreciated. They will always be on a prowl, with the tendencies to overstep the boundaries and to violate the civil liberties. That is why they should always be watched very carefully, and they should always be kept on a short governmental – congressional leash. The general investigation of the FBI beyond the Obama years, going back to early 1990-s, at least, might be also very useful. The more and deeper you learn, the better it is. The past behaviors are the best predictors of the future ones.
The most amazing thing about the FBI surveillance is that they survey everything that moves, talks, and whispers, and yet remain utterly blind to what really goes on. Is it not some specific, moles related blindness? – FBI surveillance – Google News Review – 2.25.18

Fallout Deepens From Republican Memo on FBI Surveillance – Voice of America
Washington is witnessing a moment of extreme friction between the White House and U.S. law enforcement rivaling that of the Watergate scandal of the 1970s. VOA’s Michael Bowman reports, fallout continues from Friday’s release of a Republican House …
Revealed: Two Secret Cogs In The FBI National Surveillance Machine
“The FBI has built a secretive and guarded intelligence operation, the tentacles of which stretch beyond its core task of domestic law enforcement
and into the construction of the great American panopticon. Despite the almost complete lack of …
Despite the almost complete lack of transparency surrounding that effort, Forbes has uncovered two previously-undisclosed units that sources say form crucial parts of the FBI’s surveillance machinery. Known as the FBI Collections Operations Group and the FBI WiFi Group, they appear in virtually no public records. Google searches for the names return nothing. Not a single LinkedIn profile contains a reference to either. And with the unearthing of these two units,
civil liberties activists, legal experts and even former intelligence analysts are crying foul about the possibility of widespread domestic surveillance occurring across America with zero oversight.
…
“Unfortunately law enforcement agencies spying on their own citizens’ communications is a trend that is steadily increasing around the world. When these groups operate in secret there is no way for the public to confirm that they are operating with all due legal restraint as required by their nation’s laws,” said Cooper Quintin, security researcher and technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation…
“The fact that the FBI operates in multiple spaces makes this SIGINT capability extremely concerning for civil rights,” the ex-analyst said. “The concerns were much less when they had the wall between intel and law enforcement… Now that there’s no ‘wall’ separating the two, you’re left to trust that information gained from intelligence activities is not being used for law enforcement.”
And there’s more to worry about than parallel construction. “Simply making it easier to share this data and information also worries us as in this era of big data,” Joseph Lorenzo-Hall, chief technologist at the Center for Democracy & Technology, told Forbes. “There are very few assurances that the data is protected well and won’t essentially be used at some point in a panopticon-like mechanism that we’re seeing in places like China, where every little detail controls opportunities available to certain segments of society.”

Elevation, section and plan of Jeremy Bentham’s Panopticon penitentiary, drawn by Willey Reveley, 1791
“The Panopticon is a type of institutional building and a system of control designed by the English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the late 18th century. The scheme of the design is to allow all (pan-) inmates of an institution to be observed (-opticon) by a single watchman without the inmates being able to tell whether or not they are being watched. Although it is physically impossible for the single watchman to observe all the inmates’ cells at once, the fact that the inmates cannot know when they are being watched means that they are motivated to act as though they are being watched at all times. This scheme effectively compels the inmates to constantly control their own behavior. The name is also a reference to Panoptes from Greek mythology; he was a giant with a hundred eyes and thus was known to be a very effective watchman.”
