“The first reaction the documents reflect is simple shock, confusion and disbelief. The words “unprecedented,” “tumultuous,” “shock” and “surprise” appear in a great many of the emails. Two days after the firing, the assistant director of the International Operations Division, almost certainly Carlos Cases (the author is identified in the documents only as “Carlos” but is identifiable from the division affiliated with the email address), described the period as “a whirlwind of shock at the suddenness of the departure of Director Comey and concern with what the future will hold.””

M.N.: The interesting set of emotions expressed: “a whirlwind of shock… suddenness… concern with what the future will hold.”
What is the personality structure and the set of motivations, most likely corresponding with this set of emotions? Selfish careerism? Any other guesses? Carlos Cases was the FBI Director in Puerto Rico from 2.5.13 until early 2016, before Leff.
The existential and the political situation and the predicament of Puerto Rico cannot be understood fully without the assessment of the FBI role in the Island’s most recent history and the developments, including the current crisis, and including the Cases’ San Juan branch Directorship. I would leave this issue to the specialists and the FBI historians to look into but I would be interested in learning about their impressions. I am sure that at least some of these impressions will be expressed in writing. My somewhat skeptical and critical attitude can be easily noted in the choice of words and pictures but I will reserve my judgment until I see some informed reports.
