Fracture due to a single fatigue crack occurs for specimens with longer fatigue life ( 2, 4139 x 106 cy-cles, e. g. Figure 6b). In this case fatigue crack takes place at the specimen surface where can be seen a mas-sive initiation point, probably oxide, resulting into a significant crack as seen in Figure 6c.
