Clemson had Death Valley first, and LSU’s history of calling it Death Valley came straight from Clemson tradition. LSU, however, adopted to Tiger mascot well before Clemson, even though Clemson’s nickname were the Tigers just 3 years apart from LSU, the “Southern Gentleman” was their mascot until the 1950’s.
